Rubik cubes
During more than a decade I've been gathering diferent kinds of Rubik cubes which have been added up into a humble collection. My interest on them have been always moderated but more or less constant.
I got my first cube when I was working as a consultant, for no particular reason. I'd been very close to Rubik's world and Rubik cube's enthusiasts before, but it never was something I paid attention to. But as said before, for no reason, some day I got a 3x3 cube.
I tried to solve it by my self, without reading how-to's or researching for algorithms. It took me several weeks to solve it and I feel proud about the achievement. Nevertheless, it wasn't a life changing nor revealing feeling.
The surprising fact is what keep me on my challenge was the hand movement, rather the intellectual challenge. Indeed, the physical feeling of rotating the pieces is smooth and addictively satisfactory.
I've never cared about speed, optimal algorithms or competitions. I barely know the standard notation. Nowadays, I devote almost no time to them. And when I do, what I enjoy is to choose a type, study its permutation group and its states, and design a solve strategy with a pen and a notebook. I would even say I prefer not having the physical cube during the process.
Finally, I want to state that is my intention to publish some of those analysis I made. I'm pretty sure out there, in the vast internet, there should be much better algorithms, explanations, and analysis about the same cubes. And I encourage you to learn about those cubes there. Here, in my website, there will be mines.
